Newcastle Town Goalkeeping Coach

Coach hangs up his gloves

After an incredible association spanning more than two decades, we say farewell to Scott Bentley as he steps down from his role as goalkeeping coach.

Scott’s journey with the club began back in the 2001/02 season when he first signed from Leek. Although his initial spell lasted just a year, it marked the start of a long and meaningful relationship. He later returned ahead of the Gleghorn era, going on to spend two seasons in the first team before an unfortunate hand injury disrupted his playing career.

Not one to step away from the game, Scott transitioned into coaching, taking charge of the Under-18s around 2004. Despite briefly returning to playing—including a loan spell with Alsager—another hand injury ultimately brought his time on the pitch to a close. He continued to contribute in the reserves before finally hanging up his boots and gloves.

Scott’s commitment to the club didn’t end there. He returned as a coach in 2016, working alongside the management team for a season, and more recently rejoined again last season to support the goalkeepers with his experience, passion, and knowledge of the game.

Across more than 20 years, Scott has given everything to the club—as a player, a coach, and a mentor.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Scott for his outstanding service and wish him all the very best for the future.
