Mossley AFC VS Newcastle Town- Saturday 21st March 2026
With the inform home side being unbeaten for 10 games, Town knew they had to be at their best to secure three points against the side, which they just couldn’t hold onto in the end due to a late comeback from the Lilywhites.
It was a cagey start for both sides as not many chances were created until the 25th minute, when Joel Jones let off a thumping strike for Town, forcing Fin Madigan into a stop to prevent Newcastle breaking the deadlock Another opportunity in the 41st minute landed to Harry who was put through on the right hand side as he fired his shot across goal, however Madigan was there to deny Town their second chance to break the deadlock.
The pivotal moment occurred on the stroke of half–time, when Callum Stringer was sent-off for Mossley AFC after a horrific challenge on Joe Hunter, giving Newcastle Town the perfect advantage in the second half.

With the hosts being down to 10 men, Town had a huge opportunity to take the points away from this game. In the 55th minute, the deadlock was broken as Harry Bower was put through yet again on the right hank flank, and slotted the ball into the net to beat Madigan, and give Newcastle Town the lead !!!
Searching for a reply, it was clear that Mossley AFC were building back into the game as they were creating more chances to equalise. In the 67th minute, the game was turned on it’s head as Mark Lees managed to bundle the ball into the net after being there at the right time. Town really need to switch on now to avoid further pain.
This second half really was causing pure chaos as chances were going the way of both teams as they look to steal the points. Just five minutes later, it was that man again Harry Bower who was doing all he can to try and strike the ball into the net, but not much was beating Madigan in this contest today as he was equal to the ball.
In the 79th minute, substitute Oumar Camara grabbed the second goal for Mossley AFC after striking the rebound into the back of the net, giving Town a very high mountain to climb now. Just three minutes later, it was a perfect reply as a ball into the box found Harry Bower who headed the ball into the back of the net for the second time this game, and equalised for Town as they go searching for the winner. Approaching additional time, it was Oumar Camara who won the game for Mossley AFC with an excellent finish to nick the points for the home side despite being down to 10-men, pure guts and desire which Newcastle Town were short of on this occasion.

Post-Match Reaction with Neil Baker and Ashley Potter –
From being asked about the 10 goals conceded in 3 goals, Neil explicitly shared his frustrations as he admits that the team needs to do better to avoid this as they face Congleton Town FC next Tuesday, as he also admits a clear difference between the sides was standout player Fin Madigan who prevented Town from taking the points.
The next question being around the positives going forward that Harry Bower has brought into the squad, Baker agreed that he has been a vital piece of the puzzle when Newcastle have been going forward this season. Being heavily involved in the goals amongst the players when they beat Darlaston Town 2-3 last Wednesday, and scoring a brace today, Bower has been a very bright spark in the last few recent games and has settled in really well
Post-match Reaction with Harry Bower and Ashley Potter-
Once again being asked upon his thoughts around the game, Harry shared his frustrations and agreed that they were not good enough to get a result over the line, despite being able to hold onto a result twice in today’s contest.
Upon the focus of Town conceding 10 goals in 3 games, Bower admitted that the team need to be better defensively and strengthen themselves in preparation against Congleton Town next Tuesday, which will be crucial towards the placement of Newcastle Town next season. –
Finally being asked about the instant change of success when going forward as the team have managed to score 5 goals in the last two games, Bower admitted that they have been better when going forward despite only just settling in, as there is a clear positive to take away from the defeat today despite going home empty-handed.
