Pitching In

a day to forget for town

Newcastle Town FC VS Stalybridge Celtic FC- Saturday 14th March 2026

Inside the first two minutes of the game, a Stalybridge corner was met by Aaron Chalmers whose header looked to be going in, however a great reaction from captain Joe Slinn prevented Stalybridge taking the lead

Doing well to keep out any potential threat from the away side, Newcastle showed promising signs when building into attacks, however lacked a threatening edge in the final third as they were unable to test Charlie Monks inside the first twenty minutes.

The biggest opportunity of the game so far landed to Stalybridge Celtic, as a deep ball into the box landed to Kyle Brownhill who was completely unmarked at the back post, however he was unable to direct his header on target from two yards out, a huge let-off for Town

Just a few minutes later, some great play from Stalybridge on the right hand flank led to Ruben Jerome inside the box, who did brilliant to turn on the ball and fire the ball into the bottom left corner, giving Joe Slinn no chance of getting to the ball

In the 25th minute of the game, another corner to the away side was swung into the box, as it landed to Aaron Chalmers who was yet again unmarked, being able to head the ball into the back of the net and doubled the advantage for Stalybridge Celtic. From bade to worse for Newcastle Town.

Just four minutes later, an excellent ball cut through opened the Newcastle Town defence, and set Jack Irlam through on goal, as he slotted the ball into the back of the net for the third time in this game.

In the 33rd minute, the ball landed on the right hand side of the box which Town were not able to clear, as Mike Koral thunderstruck the ball into the roof of the net, and made it 0-4. An absolutely horrendous game so far for Newcastle, with a huge mountain to climb

With Newcastle Town heading down the tunnel at 0-4 down, they would need huge character to oven think about the impossible here

Building into the game, it was an improvement for the home side, as they were doing well to hold onto the ball and maintain a level of calmness into the game despite being unable to create any chances.

Poor communication from Newcastle Town’s backline led a misled pass to set Stalybridge Celtic through on goal, however Lewis Brown showed some excellent commitment to track back and clear the ball away from danger.

Another opportunity came the way of the away side when an excellent pass unwrapped the defence, but an excellent last ditch tackle from substitute Scott Johnston prevented any further danger.

In the 84th minute, further danger from Ellis Horan on the right hand flank led an inviting low cross to land into the box, and was met by Max Leonard who fired the ball for the fifth time this game.

Full Time – Newcastle Town 0-5 Stalybridge Celtic

– Overall, a bad day at the office for Newcastle Town, as they head into Wednesday with a huge fixture on their hands, facing Darlaston away. With no goals in three games, and failing to have a shot on goal in this game, there is a huge opportunity for a redemption as they face 21nd in the league.
