The club can announce that Goalkeeper Owen Mooney has returned to his parent club Wigan Athletic.
Owen who joined us at the start of the season on a work experience loan initially was an ever-present in goals for us until his injury vs Widnes FC
During his time with us, Owen made 25 appearances, picked up 5 clean sheets, the November player of the month award and saved countless penalties for us including a superb performance vs Kempston Rovers in the Trophy penalty shoot-out all at the age of just 17.
Everyone associated with the club would like to wish Owen the very best for the future and we are sure that he is a name that in a few years we will see playing in the EFL
First team Manager Robin van der Laan commented
" Owen Mooney has returned to Wigan after an exceptional loan spell with us. Owen has been fantastic both as a player and a person, the 17 year old goalkeeper has shown great maturity in his performances during his 25 games for the club"
" His solid performances and some truly incredible saves have made a telling contribution to our season so far and although we knew this time would eventually come we are sad to see him go. We would like to wish Owen the very best in his footballing endeavours and will no doubt see him play pro football in the not so far future"
" Thanks, Owen from all of us at Newcastle Town FC "
GK Coach Jake Ratcliffe added
" I would like to wish Owen and his family the very best for the future, and if he continues to work hard as he has done with us he is in for a fantastic career ahead of him, all info passed on to him by us he has taken on board and he has developed well in his time with us "
Media Manager Shaun Rogers also chipped in with
" for a young keeper like Owen, he come here with a real maturity at the start of the season and showed us why he is so highly regarded at his parent club, he was always keen to learn and would constantly chat with us about his game and work with Jake (GK coach) on video analysis of his matches to see what areas he could improve on and I and the club have no doubt he will go on to big things in football and one-day showcase the talent we have been privileged to see start out with here at Newcastle Town on the big stage "
We would also like to "pre" wish him a very happy 18th birthday this coming weekend.
