Finally – we get our man
After almost two weeks of trying, we have finally completed the signing of Dan Cockerline from our Northern Premier League West rivals Nantwich Town.
Dan was at our home win over Mossley and then attended his first training session last Thursday but due to delays in processing new player registrations at the FA as the transfer window drew to a close, is only now officially our player.
Dan is a player of excellent pedigree having been the second leading goal-scorer at the Dabbers the season before last, before injury interrupted his progress. At 6ft4, Dan he will be a towering presence leading the line.
But it’s not just his height that opponents need to be wary of. He has two quick feet and most definitely an eye for goal. Dan spent the last two seasons at Nantwich but has also played previously for Barrow, Southport and FC United of Manchester, having started his footballing career as a youngster at Sheffield United.
Our manager Paul Moore said: “This is a terrific signing for the club and I’m really looking forward to seeing what Dan can do in our league. He’s already trained with us and looks hungry, so it all bodes well.
“The club have worked hard to make this deal happen and I know that our fans will give Dan a warm welcome.”
At 26-years-of age, he is very much in his physical prime and we are delighted that he is now our player, especially as several other clubs were interested in acquiring his services.
The big man goes straight into our matchday squad and will be ready to make his debut in our FA Trophy tie at Belper Town this Saturday.
Welcome to ‘Castle Dan!
