This Saturday is a special day in the non-league calendar as attention is very much on clubs like ourselves, who can compete for more attention with the top two divisions not in action.
Always scheduled to coincide with an international break, Non-League Day provides a platform for clubs to promote the importance of affordable volunteer-led community football, while giving fans across the country the chance to show support for their local non-league side.
With Port Vale also all the way down on the south coast at Portsmouth, we would like to encourage as many people as possible to come along to see our game with City of Liverpool – a game that could go a long way to securing our place in the Northern Premier League West Division for next season.
But that’s not all. By supporting non-league day everyone who comes to the game on Saturday will receive a free ticket to our women’s match against Staffordshire Victoria Ladies, which is played on Sunday with a 2pm kick off.
We are also using non-league-day as the moment to officially open the new Paul Ratcliffe Lounge. Paul – as many of you will already know – was our former chairman, who passed away in February of last year.
His widow Barbara will be at the ground on Saturday to cut the ribbon and mark the latest development in the club’s progress. We’re sure he would have been proud.
So, get yourself down to Buckmaster Avenue and enjoy a day – or two days if you can make Sunday as well – of grass roots football and give your support to your local non-league club.
