Runcorn up next for buoyant Castle
After our dramatic late victory over high-flying Stalybridge at the weekend, we get an immediate chance to go toe to toe with another one of the league’s traditional heavyweightsRuncorn Linnets, this evening.
Runcorn made a very slow start to the season but are now putting together a run of form which has seen them edge towards the play-off spaces – somewhere they have been no stranger to in recent seasons.
Hednesford and Witton both notched up wins by four goal margins against the Linnets in the space of three days at the end of August but since then they’ve been a different beast.
Wythenshawe Town broke the run of three successive wins that Runcorn had been on but it’s still ten points out of twelve in their last four games for the team based on the banks of the Mersey.
But that’s enough about the opposition – what about our prospects of going there and getting a result? We’re not under any illusions about how difficult a prospect it will be for us especially given the hosts recent upturn in form, but we’ll be travelling north in high spirits tonight.
We fielded an unchanged team on Saturday and there’s every chance we may go with the same eleven again – they do say you shouldn’t change a winning team. We’ve coped really well without Stubbsy: skipper Tommy has stepped up to the challenge of playing centre half and the absence of a key player in Jake Twyford hasn’t led to a drop off. Credit too here to Ty Webster who has come into the fold and done a terrific job.
Of course, we don’t want to miss these key players, but it shows what a strong sense of togetherness there is in the squad that we have been able to simply get on with it and not see any drop off in results.
And so on to tonight. A win would set us up very nicely for our home game at the weekend with another of the league’s top teams Bootle coming to Buckmaster Avenue. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves as we have a really tough game first this evening.
Come on Castle!
