Midweek clash with Clitheroe provides chance to climb table
After two wins on the bounce at City of Liverpool and Trafford, to lose at home to Hednesford on Saturday was naturally very disappointing. However, there’s absolutely no reason to feel dispirited about that 2-1 home defeat, as we gave another very good account of ourselves. It just came down to who took their chances. They did – we didn’t. Simple as.
In this fixture laden month of November, there are plenty of opportunities to bounce back and today we get to do just that under the lights at Buckmaster Avenue against Clitheroe.
Clitheroe have had a fairly mixed start to the season but did get back to winning ways on Saturday thanks to a very familiar name. Sefton Gonzales – so often the scourge of Northern Premier League West defenders – scored both their goals in a 2-1 win at Witton.
We fielded an unchanged team on Saturday and the same squad of players will be available to Bakes again tonight, including Carlos dos Santos, who was forced off early in the piece against Hednesford.
Looking ahead to the game when I spoke to him last night, Neil said: “Clitheroe have got good players, so we certainly won’t be underestimating the task ahead of us. It’s fair to say that they are probably not where they expected to be in the league table, although they do have plenty of games in hand on almost all the teams above them.
“It’s been such an open league this season and it really will simply come down to which team plays their best football on the night. We know we need to be a bit more clinical but there are lots of positive signs in what I’m seeing and I’m confident that we can get a result tomorrow.”
With a very difficult looking trip to high-flying Congleton to come on Saturday, tonight is a great opportunity to regain that bit of momentum and with the team playing pretty well, there’s no reason to think we can’t do just that with victory against Clitheroe.
Come on Castle!
