There’s no point beating about the bush when it comes to this Saturday’s match with champions elect Macclesfield – and yes, I think we can say describe them as that even in January – we have to treat this as a free hit.
The club for which there always seems to be a story haven’t always had it their way this season but after Colne held them to a 1-1 draw in early December, the Cheshire club now managed by the former Blackburn Rovers and Guyanese international Neil Danns, have really started to flex their muscles.
Since Colne’s Enock Luisama scored against them on Saturday 3 December, Macclesfield haven’t conceded a goal in 518 minutes that’s mor than 8 and a half hours or put another way – a bloody long time! Ramsbottom, Hanley, Widnes, Leek and Kidsgrove have all succumbed to Macclesfield’s firepower by a collective margin of 19-0.
We will respect today’s opponents but not fear them. The expectation will be of course that Macclesfield continue their good run, but the pressure will all be on them to do so.
The task in front of us is, however, significant, which is why it was all the more important that we broke that streak of matches without a victory last Saturday. The 3-1 win at Widnes gives us a lot more confidence to take into the weekend’s game and it was great to see Nathan Morley back among the goals and a first goal for the club for Callum Parker.
The way that the team celebrated with Nathan for his first strike showed the unity among the lads and was great to see. Check the goals out on our YouTube channel if you haven’t done so already – the first was a picture book team effort!
Back to Saturday then and please give the lads your full support as we go toe to toe with the league leaders.
Come on ‘Castle!
