In three minutes of football last weekend, we went from cursing what would have been a thoroughly undeserved loss to a relegation rival to performing metaphorical cartwheels at a dramatic late turnaround.
Yes, it’s fair to say that our thrilling 2-1 turnaround win at Colne last week was just the tonic we needed going into this weekend’s game with another team in and around us, City of Liverpool.
And what better day than Non-League Day could there be to get another three points in the bag.
It’s certainly not a case of relaxing and taking our foot off the gas for the visit of City of Liverpool but the run in now for the rest of the season is one we’ll really look forward to, as we go into the game full of confidence after our sheer bloody-mindedness and determination not to be beaten got us over the line last week when it looked like we might go home empty-handed.
Saturday’s game is a great opportunity to achieve three things. The first target is to reach the 40-point mark – which as any seasoned follower of Premier League football will know is the benchmark for staying up.
We’re also a 38-game season in the Northern Premier League West division, so it’s a handy benchmark for us too and we’re only a point off that now. It’s also an opportunity to complete a league double over our opponents having beaten them at their place 2-1 on Guy Fawkes Night last year – Jake Lovatt and Kyle Stubbs providing the fireworks for us that day.
And lastly, one thing we’ve not quite been able to manage this season has been back-to-back league wins.
Needless to say, this would be a great time to do it! So all in all, there’s plenty of reasons to get down to Buckmaster Avenue for what should be a really good game – so please come down on Non-League Day and support the boys.
Come on Castle!
