Match Preview - Colne FC vs Newcastle Town FC

16/03/2023

Ultimately last week it wasn’t to be but there were an awful lot of positives to take from last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to champions elect Macclesfield.

The determination shown by the team for 90 minutes against the best team in the league was absolutely superb and all of this after we had to play for 65 minutes with ten men after Joe Slinn’s red card.

It was fantastic to have almost 1,000 fans packed into the ground last week and the lads weren’t at all overawed by the occasion of playing the league leaders and could even have gone in front just before the Silkmen took the lead.

As we know, it is a time of change at the club, but spirits are high and we’re feeling extremely positive about the coming games.

The trip just north of Burnley to Colne is a big game for us – aren’t they all – but with a few postponements and other teams losing last Saturday, we’ve not lost any ground so it’s all very much in our hands.

Saturday is a great opportunity to put some distance between ourselves and one of our direct opponents and as he takes the reins for these last few games of the season, Robin is keeping the lads firmly focused on the job in front of us.

As far as the team news is concerned, the one obvious decision to make is between the sticks. We are working hard to find a keeper for Saturday but with the incredible performance that our captain Marvel James Askey put in, we may think the answer is closer to home!

Get along to support the boys if you can for what is another big game.

Come on ‘Castle!
