At the third time of asking it’s City of Liverpool away
After two previous postponements, we are preparing to travel to Ellesmere Port tomorrow to take on promotion hopefuls City of Liverpool. And we do so in good spirits coming off the back of 3-1 win over local rivals Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday.
With our league status secured in the two months that the gaffer has been here, it’s now time to look up the league and to see if we can make an impression on the play-offs. Those ambitions will be severely tested this week with two massive away games. City of Liverpool are first up tomorrow with a trip to Stalybridge Celtic to follow on Saturday.
Tomorrow’s fixture is being played in Ellesmere Port at the home of Vauxhall Motors, due to some administrative difficulties that City of Liverpool have been experiencing of late. This levels out the home advantage aspect of the game but they will be a big challenge nonetheless, having secured two wins and a draw in their last three games – a run which included a highly impressive 2-0 away win at Runcorn last Tuesday.
I spoke to Neil earlier today and he was in no doubt about the scale of the task ahead: “Tomorrow is a big game for us, as is Saturday, and will show how far we have come. We have definitely made terrific progress but to my mind, City of Liverpool are the next best team in the league after Leek, so we will have a tough job on our hands.
“It will be a different game with our opponents playing at a temporary ground and it must have an effect on a team not able to utilise home advantage, though that doesn’t impact on our planning. We have to focus on our game and make sure we’re ready from the first whistle.”
We are pleased to report a clean bill of health for the game in terms of the playing squad from Saturday but are still likely to be without Josh Jordan, so our skipper Tommy is likely to continue to deputise at centre half.
It’s a big game for the boys – if you can’t make it, please do follow live in-game updates on our social channels. We’ll also bring you reaction and reporting after the game.
Come on Castle!
