Former Player Wilkes backs the next generation

Town legend returns pitch side....

Former Town player Daryl Wilkes is back at the club, and this time he has swapped the Centre circle for the touch line, inspiring the next generation of boys and girls.

Wilkes played for Castle between 2003 and 2010, as well as playing for other local clubs like Nantwich Town, Stafford Rangers and Leek Town. It is therefore a full circle moment that he is now back at the club coaching both the Under 15s boys team and Under 11s Girls.

Wilkes said “Having finished my playing days, a natural fit was to get involved coaching back in grassroots football. I have run a team at Madeley White Star for a number of years and was very happy to get involved at Castle when asked. It's a perfect fit with all three of my children involved in the club I spent many good years at."

Wilkes was a box to box midfield player who served as Captain for a short period when Greg Clowes came to the club in 2010.

Chairman Gavin Appleby said "It's great for our players to have someone like Daryl involved, he was no doubt an excellent football player and these kids can learn plenty off him."

"To make it even sweeter (or some would say more difficult) Daryl has his son Finn and daughters Annie and Nancy playing in the teams he supports with his coaching."

Daryl is one of a number of ex players who are now giving back to the club by volunteering to help coach the areas youngsters.
