FA Cup replay round-up
We weren’t the only Northern Premier League West side battling to get through to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup in midweek and after a busy couple of nights of action, the picture is now clear.
Out of the 22 clubs that represent our division, nine have made it through to the first qualifying round on Saturday 31 August. Two of those nine will face off against each other after Witton Albion defeated South Liverpool 3-1 on Tuesday night to secure a home draw with City of Liverpool.
Wythenshawe Town scored twice in the last ten minutes of their replay with Runcorn on Tuesday night to earn an away tie at Whitchurch Alport, who are one of two representatives of the tier 5 Midland League Premier Division left in this season’s competition.
Sheffield claimed their second NPL West scalp in the cup this season with a notable 3-2 replay win over Clitheroe on Tuesday night following up on their home win against Nantwich in the previous round.
Witton Albion are also through to the first qualifying round after a hard fought 3-1 win over South Liverpool and have a home tie against another Liverpudlian team, City of Liverpool in the next round.
And in the final replay to involve an NPL West team last night, Mossley had a relatively comfortable 3-1 win against Eccleshill United and now face Northern Premier League Whitby Town a week on Saturday.
And just a reminder – though I’m sure you didn’t need it – that we entertain Long Eaton United on Saturday 31 August. We hope you’ll join us at Buckmaster Avenue to see if we can progress further in the FA Cup.
